The influence of true artistic genius extends beyond geographical, cultural and historical boundaries. Discover the profound impact of music by Johannes Brahms on Hungarian, Austrian, Danish and Czech composers in three "Brahms Beyond Borders" Summermusic 2019 programs juxtaposing his compositions with works by Antonín Dvořák, Carl Goldmark, Niels Gade and Ernő Dohnányi. “Brahms Beyond Borders” explores the world of late 19th century Romanticism with its passionate yet richly nuanced music, full of lyricism and vigor with deep roots in Central European folk song and dance.
First program will feature Pianist Stuart Malina, Artistic Director of the Harrisburg Symphony, violinist Peter Sirotin and pianist Ya-Ting Chang, Directors of Market Square Concerts, Fiona Thompson, principal cellist of the Harrisburg Symphony, and violist Michael Stepniak, Dean of Shenandoah Conservatory, performing the passionate Brahms Piano Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 25, and poetic Piano Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 26.
