Religious “Nones”: Experiences of atheists, agnostics, and other irreligious individuals in the U.S. Dr. Jacob Sawyer’s primary line of research examines the experiences of individuals who do not believe in God or gods. This includes psychological implications of stereotypes and discrimination, benefits of engaging in nonbelief community groups, and reactions towards grief, loss, and bereavement in nonbelievers. This discussion will highlight recent research findings in these areas and explore future research directions in examining the experiences of nonbelievers.
