Mendelssohn Piano Trio and Stuart Malina explore the creative rivalry between Tchaikovsky and Brahms through the juxtaposition of two powerful compositions inspired by personal loss. While both composers openly expressed disapproval of each other’s styles, they found an inspiring reconciliation on a personal level after meeting for a dinner on New Year’s Day in 1888.
