Pappus House announces their 3rd Annual Lanterns of Light community event
Sunday, October 10, 2021
At Sunset – 6:30PM
Location: Cousler Park (at the pond) , 1060 Church Road, York, PA 17404
Lanterns of Light is a community memorial service and annual signature event benefitting Pappus House. Participants purchase, decorate, and customize floating lanterns with art and messages to honor a loved one.
After a memorial ceremony, including remarks by Pappus House Board and Emcee Lori Burkholder, the lanterns will be illuminated with battery powered votive candles and launched into the water at sunset by event volunteers. Attendees are welcome to walk around the pond and park area in peacefulness and reflection as hundreds of lanterns, illuminate the tranquil water, a heartfelt celebration of light and love.
At this time, Lanterns of Light will be an in-person event on October 10 with a rain date of October 17. If guidelines and conditions change, it will move to a virtual event with a live YouTube feed, as was done in 2020.
Proceeds from this annual event benefit Pappus House and the residents of
of its compassionate, dignified home for end-of-life care. Pappus House is dedicated exclusively to the needs of people with a terminal illness who are unable, or do not wish, to die in their own home. Specially trained staff and volunteers become extended family, providing continuous care, nurturing companionship, medication administration, home-cooked meals, and personal hygiene – in careful coordination with the family’s chosen hospice provider. Pappus House is the only end-of-life home in York County and is the only such residence in Pennsylvania that works collaboratively with ALL hospice and health providers.
Since opening in late 2017, Pappus House has welcomed and served more than 128 individuals and hundreds of their family members.
